Once food enters the stomach, it undergoes mechanical and chemical breakdown. Stomach muscles churn the food, while gastric juices containing hydrochloric acid and enzymes break down proteins. Some nutrients are absorbed, and the partially digested food (chyme) moves to the small intestine for further digestion and absorption.

Food doesn’t become poisonous in your stomach.

Food poisoning occurs when you consume food contaminated with harmful bacteria, viruses, or toxins. These contaminants can cause illness and unpleasant symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Proper food handling and storage practices are crucial to prevent food poisoning.
