Sakkarai pongal , A Tamil recipe , taste like payasam
Ingredients
rice – 1/2 cup
moong dal – 1/4 cup
water – 2&1/2 cup
jaggery – 1&1/4 cube or 1 cup or 150 gm
ghee – 1 tsp + 3 tsp
cardamom powder – 3 cardamom
cashews
rasins
coconut chunks
Preparation
wash rice and moong dal seperatly. to a pressure cooker add1 tsp ghee and saute mong dal for 3 to 4 minutes in medium flameadd rice and saute for a minute and add 2 &1/2 cups of water and cookfor 2 whistles in medium flame
melt jaggery in 1 cup of water ..add strained jaggery syrup to the cooked dal and rice… mix well and add powdered cardamom..cook for 8 to 10 minutes after boiling in medium flame….add 1/2 cup of hot water to adjust consistency…remove from the fire…saute coconut chunks, cashews and raisins in 2 tsp ghee and pour this to pongal ….mix well and add 1 tsp ghee….mix well and keep aside for 15 minutes…serve hot….yummy chakkara pongal is ready….
